i can’t believe that i haven’t been to the beach yet. i definitely need to make a trip ASAP. i can’t stand being in socal, and not being able to enjoy the beach scene here.
last night i had a family style dinner in chinatown with some santa cruz buddies- jesse dip, charlie kim, scott lin, and kelsey. i don’t remember the last time i had a chinese family style dinner. it felt so amazingly good to have good eats and to laugh with them.
today i got to meet Simon Birch. i only read an interview about him, and a little backstory about him before he came into the office, but it was enough to get me excited. i didn’t get to speak with him, besides basic intros, but it was overwhelming to be in the same room as him, there was so many things i wanted to ask about his future plans in hong kong and about his history.
i look at the paintings that i’ve been working on, and i feel like i have a long ways to go before i can come close to what i hope to be. it makes me want to tear them down and start anew.
woke up kind of early to go to thrifting around melrose. 1$ thrift, if you get up early enough and attack those piles of clothes like no one’s business, you find some good treasures.
i saw The Cobra Snake there, with a team of three men, they definitely got a good haul. I had these hideous floral jeans in my pile, that were a bit too small for me, and one of the guys that worked for him asked me for them. SO I JUST GAVE THEM AWAY. unfortunately, i remembered that my friend melissa would’ve loved those and immediately regretted surrendering those hideous floral jeans to The Cobra Snake.
i need to bring a buddy with me next week, because honestly, a one-man team just doesn’t work. i’m just this tiny asian girl, and there’s a lot of clothes to grab and gather, I just can’t tackle it by myself if i’m hoping for a good haul.
on another note.
I transcribed an interview with Bryan O’ Malley, the guy who does the Scott Pilgrim comics. For an hour of interview, it definitely took me more than 6 hours just to transcribe because of the sound quality. It was hard to make out the words, because of the background noise and I would repeat the parts 5+ times jut trying to make out what they’re saying.
overall, it’s a pretty interesting interview, and I personally can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out. I’ve read a few pages out of the first book of the Scott Pilgrim series, and I like it, but I just haven’t gotten around to completing it.
maybe i’ll add that to my to-do list for this summer.
I’m also trying to crash a photography class, which is at 8am today in pasadena. It’s a mon-fri class, so I’ll be busy from 8am - 5pm ish mon- fri. oh god. i feel old.
i’m in love with poketo. the environment is classy, clean & professional. i have to admit, it made me a bit shy and intimidated. WHEN I REALLY HAVE NO REASON TO BE BECAUSE THEY’RE ALL EXTREMELY NICE. god, i’m in love with their aesthetics. you have no idea how good it feels to be surrounded by beautiful design and a group of classy cats. i’m an overachiever. i want to show them that i’m a competent reliable worker that’s gonna put in 110% into every task.
on another note- for GR i’m writing a review on a manga called “twin spica”, yay! responsibilities! i hope i live up to their expectations. it’s been interesting working there… i borrowed “densha otoko” the book from their SUPER LIBRARY. it’s old, but i’ve been meaning to read it/ watch the movie.
i’m going to try and bring lunch to work! i brought in salmon and brown rice today in my bento. it looked deliciouus.
i bought a lot of ingredients to make soba, mabo tofu, yakisoba, and sushi. i’m hoping to experiment with different recipes this summer and learn how to cook better food.
my neighbor really wanted to go to the pre- E3 event in LA, so i accompanied him because i thought it would be interesting. the first 150 people in line would get passes to go to E3, and the guy from metal gear solid was there at the event. we didn’t get to see him, but we got to play some of their games, and see a small preview of what sony was up to.
the event was held at a restaurant called Cuidad, and the appetizers that they had were AMAZING. it was a classy restaurant, and i really want to go there for dinner someday.
